Help Needed

Around 1840, the Joseph Smith Sr. family built a double-log cabin for Joseph Sr. and his wife, Lucy Mack Smith. The North side of the building was their home. The South side was used as a hat shop. Joseph Sr. and Lucy lived in the home until the passing of Joseph. The building has great historical significance to his posterity because it was here that he gave his final father’s blessings to his children.

A replica of this home is scheduled to be rebuilt at the Mary Bailey Smith Campsite in Nauvoo, Illinois. Mary Bailey Smith was the daughter-in-law to Joseph Sr. and Lucy Mack Smith. Descendants of their family will be able to stay at this accommodation for a modest donation to the ANS Legacy Foundation: the foundation that supports iDigNauvoo, the Smith Family Gardens, and further improvements at the campsite.

We have a great opportunity to provide volunteer work in sorting reclaimed timbers for the building of this cabin. For those individuals who are interested in helping, please sign up by clicking the button below. Housing may be available. Ask for details on the sign-up sheet.
