The idigNauvoo archaeological project’s mission it is to discover, preserve and share the history and legacy of the beautiful city of Nauvoo, Illinois. In conjunction with the Joseph Smith Historic Site and Samuel H. Smith Foundation, volunteers continue to explore and preserve this historic area.

As we explore, more information will be shared about our projects, excavations, techniques, and findings. All discoveries are cataloged, preserved, stored according to the highest archaeological standards.

Times and Seasons building

In May 2022, our plans are to explore the areas not yet excavated by previous digs, in preparation for restoring the building structure.

Samuel H. Smith Home

From 2012 to present, we have excavated this site. We will continue explore more of this area.

Hyrum Smith Office and Store

From 2017 to present, we have excavated this site. We will continue explore more of this area.

Joseph Smith, Sr. & Lucy Mack Smith Home

From 2012-2014, we excavated this site. We discovered an 1835 half-dime as one of the artifacts.
