Our Story

The idigNauvoo archaeological project is supported by the ANS Legacy Foundation (DBA: idigNauvoo), a 501(3)(c) private non-profit organization, whose mission it is to discover, preserve and share the history and legacy of the beautiful city of Nauvoo, Illinois. In conjunction with the Joseph Smith Historic Site and the Samuel H. Smith Foundation, volunteers continue to explore and preserve this historic area.

What We Do

Discover

A team of volunteers — including archaeologists — work together to uncover artifacts at dig sites located in Nauvoo, Illinois.

Preserve

After an artifact is discovered, identified, and cataloged, a team of preservationists clean and attempt to assemble, when possible, for display.

Share

Discoveries are shared with the public as museum displays or thesis papers.

Our Mission & Approach

The historic legacy of the Nauvoo, Illinois area is rich, abundant and expansive. Through careful scientific archaeological procedures, we are able to uncover and share the historical treasures with the world.

Our team members include archaeologists, students and volunteers. Free training is provided to students and volunteers prior to participating at a dig site.
